3 Panthers Making it Easy for Carolina to Say Goodbye in 2025

DT LaBryan Ray
Among Panthers players who started for most of the season, it's hard to find a more disappointing player than defensive lineman LaBryan Ray. The undrafted free agent who first signed with the Panthers last summer saw his contract extended before the 2024 season. Unfortunately, however, this didn't pay off for the Panthers.
Ray appeared in 12 and started in eight games for the Panthers this season. He has played the second-most defensive snaps out of all interior defensive linemen on the team. During his minutes, he has consistently been a weak link. He has 35 tackles, two tackles for loss, one QB hit, and one sack in his minutes, receiving a 38.3 defensive grade on PFF, ranking 119th out of 124 interior defensive linemen in the league.
The defensive line was a problem for the Panthers all season, contributing to their defensive woes, allowing the most points and second-most yards of any team in the NFL. In addition to Ray, A'Shawn Robinson, and Shy Tuttle have underwhelmed in their stints as well, pointing to a major weakness GM Dan Morgan needs to address in the offseason.
If the Panthers are going to be a more competitive and relevant team, they need to fix the trenches. That starts with moving on from underperforming linemen and bringing in new ones.
