3 Panthers Making it Easy for Carolina to Say Goodbye in 2025

The Panthers will not miss these three players once they leave in the offseason.

WR David Moore

Another offensive playmaker who hasn't been as good as the Panthers had hoped is veteran wide receiver David Moore. The 29-year-old pass-catcher returned to Carolina for his second stint in the offseason and was forced into a much bigger role than both he and the organization intended for.

Before the season, Moore was, at best, the WR5 for this team. In the first few weeks of the season, he was behind Xavier Legette, Diontae Johnson, Adam Thielen, and Jonathan Mingo in the pecking order. After Thielen's injury and trades that sent Johnson and Mingo away, Moore had to start five games for the Panthers. In fact, he is the Panthers WR that played the second most snaps this season behind Legette.

It's hard to argue, however, that Moore did much with his opportunity. He was targeted 46 times and caught 26 of them for 267 yards and a touchdown. His 1.7 yards after catch per reception left plenty to be desired as the 29-year-old lacked the athleticism and explosiveness to make defenders miss. His best game came against the Chiefs in Week 12 when he finished with six catches, 81 yards, and a touchdown. Besides that, however, it has been largely disappointing.

Moore was signed to a one-year deal before the season. Given the minimal expectations, he did his best. At the same time, he didn't do anything to warrant another contract. He currently ranks 79th out of 128 wide receivers in the NFL, per Pro Football Focus. That could be worth a look in the practice squad, but the Panthers won't sweat it if they end up losing Moore for good.
