3 Panthers Making it Easy for Carolina to Say Goodbye in 2025
By Cem Yolbulan
Despite showing intriguing improvement in recent weeks, the Carolina Panthers are still 3-10 for the season. They need significant upgrades on both ends of the field in the offseason.
To make those upgrades, they need to move on from their underwhelming performers. Some offseason decisions can be difficult, but not these. These three Panthers are making it very easy for the front office to cut bait with them after the season. Let's take a look.
TE Tommy Tremble
Before the season, the Panthers fanbase and Dave Canales had high expectations from the fourth-year tight end. Many expected Tommy Tremble to take the next step in his career and establish himself as a starter-caliber tight end in the league. Unfortunately for the Notre Dame product, things have not gone according to plan.
First, he was limited by injuries and a concussion, missing five games earlier in the season. In his absence, rookie Ja'Tavion Sanders took off and made his case to be the TE1 going forward. The emergence of Sanders pushed Tremble further down the pecking order. Against the Eagles in Week 14, Tremble saw only two targets, catching one for three yards in the end zone for his first touchdown of the season.
Tremble's contract expires at the end of this season. He hasn't made the jump many had hoped for when he was a third-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Per Pro Football Focus, he has been the 65th-best tight end out of 79 qualified players. His 52.3 offensive grade, and especially the 26.1 pass block grade, leave plenty to be desired.
The Panthers need to give Sanders as many snaps as he can handle going forward. They also need to surround Bryce Young with more talent. Tremble has had his chances and it's time for both sides to move on.
