Erik Gustaffson

Another rental option that could inject some offense back into the blue line for the Hurricanes is Erik Gustaffson. The Swede has posted six goals and 20 assists in 58 games for Chicago this season. A big defensive presence with playmaking ability seems to be just what the doctor ordered for this Canes team as it gears up for a run at the playoffs.

Gustaffson is currently in his fourth NHL season, and may just now be hitting his stride. Last year he posted his first 60-point season, and is on pace for 36 points through 58 games this season. Gustaffson is a likely candidate as a budget offensive defenseman in this trade market. He currently sits at No. 9 on TSN‘s Trade Bait list. With that being said, the most he would likely cost is a second-round pick, which seems a decent price to pay, especially considering that the Canes have two anyway.
