This one is actually a bust.

Murphy played 151 games for the Hurricanes with 6 goals and 31 points. He played a career high 48 games in 2013-14 and never eclipsed 40 games in a season after. A lot of it was due to his size. At 5’11”, Murphy’s upside was supposed to be his ability with the puck, but he never amounted to much of anything.

There wasn’t many better picks in the 2011 draft, but drafting a stable NHL-er or trading the pick for anything else, would have been better. A lot of the guys the Hurricanes drafted in the first rounds of the decade didn’t pan out, but Murphy was perhaps the biggest bust of them all. He is only number two since there wasn’t much high-end talent in the draft class after him.
