Running Back

Christian McCaffrey

The only Panther to have won the NFL’s MVP award (yet) is Cam Newton. However, star running back Christian McCaffrey gave the rest of the league a run for its money earlier this season. In just his third year, McCaffrey has already become one of the best–if not the best–running backs in the league. He currently sits at third in the NFL in rushing yards, first in yards from scrimmage, and first in touchdowns scored.

Former Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart is also deserving of this award, however, the season McCaffrey is in the midst of is one for the history books. With three games to go, CMC still has an outside shot at breaking the NFL’s single-season yards from scrimmage record. If he can average 188 yards over the final three contests, the record will be his. Through the first (almost) three seasons of his young career, McCaffrey has racked up just under 5,000 yards of offense, and has reached the end zone 36 times. His monster season in 2019 is expected to land him a mega-extension this offseason, in which he could become the league’s highest-paid running back.
