2. Holton Ahlers – Sophomore Quarterback

After a slow start to his first full season as a starter, Holton Ahlers is beginning to heat up. He has averaged 469 passing yards over the last three games, with two of the games being against ranked opponents. He now holds the school record for passing yards in a single game with 535 yards against 17th ranked Cincinnati.

As a Pirate fan, you should be very excited about the next two seasons with Ahlers leading the offense. The Pirates’ offensive coordinator, Donnie Kirkpatrick, has been experimenting with things all season to get this offense where it needs to be and the recent success seems to allude to Holton’s increased passing attempts. Through the first seven games, Ahlers averaged about 30 pass attempts per game and in the last three games, he has averaged 48 per game. The future is very bright for Holton and this offense.
