Top 5 college football teams in NC following Week 12

It was another exciting weekend of college football here in North Carolina, and one that brought just one win among its FBS teams. With just two regular-season games remaining, has Appalachian State locked up the top spot for the season? Or will the Demon Deacons, who got walloped on Saturday, return to number one? Without further ado, here is the NC Football Top-5 after Week 12.

5. NC State Wolfpack (4-6)

Last Week’s Ranking: 5

Last Game: L 34-20 vs Louisville

N.C. State played (probably) their best game in the past month Saturday but lost to a solid Louisville team. The defense looked like world-beaters in the first half, helping them to a 10-7 lead before the wheels fell off in the second half. The offense is going to have to do a lot more if they want any chance of winning their last two games.

Everyone in North Carolina should be pulling for a Wolfpack win Saturday against Georgia Tech. A win there will set up the “Bowl Bowl” next week. Assuming UNC handles Mercer, they and N.C. State would both be 5-6 and battling it out for a trip to the postseason. If the Wolfpack fail to beat GT (which is very possible) they will being playing to be a “spoiler” in their season finale.
