With our final pick of the draft, we add an edge rusher who has been wildly productive when on the field. D.J. Wonnum has 29 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks this season, making good on the promise he showed during his sophomore season when he had 13 tackles for loss and six sacks.

The issue with Wonnum has been injuries, notably an ankle injury that kept him off the field for most of the 2018 season. The Panthers have a good bit of depth along the defensive line, so it’s not an issue to take a flyer on a potential depth pass rusher on a good NFL team.

We chose Wonnum over Miami (FL) defensive end Jonathan Garvin, who seems to have more technical issues unrelated to injuries. After those two, there are a TON of wide receivers available in the late 7th, led by Texas A&M’s Kendrick Rogers and Nebraska’s JD Spielman. We already took two wide receivers, so it felt like overkill to take a third.
