Carolina Panthers Mock Draft: Midseason Edition
It’s actually quite ghastly that the Carolina Panthers haven’t used a first-round pick on an offensive lineman since they drafted Jeff Otah in 2008. Due to injuries Otah only played in 29 total games and ultimately the lack of offensive line talent has hurt the Panthers and potentially ended the Newton era in Charlotte.
Of course, we waited until the 5th-round to draft a lineman in this draft, so we’re part of the problem. However, at pick 146, we finally add an offensive tackle. Long, tall and athletic, Eichenberg is a talented run and pass blocker. He has the ideal length for an NFL lineman and while he would need to improve his technique and fill out, he has the potential to be an NFL starter down the road.
The Panthers will have Taylor Moton and Daryl Williams under contract again next season, so Eichenberg at the very least could provide quality depth while he grows.
