Early-season shooting struggles for the Blue Devil freshmen

Last season’s group of freshmen–RJ Barrett, Zion Williamson, and Cam Reddish–found immediate success at the collegiate level. Unfortunately for Duke, the new class didn’t get off to quite as good of a start. The freshmen quartet of Matthew Hurt, Vernon Carey, Cassius Stanley, and Wendell Moore combined to shoot just 13 for 32 on the night.

To make matters worse, the group committed 11 of the team’s 16 total turnovers. Between the four of them, they posted just one assist combined. The Blue Devils can attribute this one to facing an experienced Kansas lineup, however, Duke will undoubtedly need more from them moving forward. On the bright side, the freshmen did tally 37 of the team’s 68 points.
