2. Appalachian State Mountaineers (7-1)

App State has found its kryptonite. For the second year in a row, Georgia Southern has beaten the ‘Neers to give them their only conference loss. The Mountaineers expected to get revenge on the Eagles this year but fell in an abysmal performance. They were able to make a thunderous comeback, but it fell just short. The App State offense really struggled through three quarters and their defense was unable to stop the option attack, giving up 335 rushing yards. This is the second time (vs Louisiana) that the offense came out completely flat. It cost them this time.

1. Wake Forest Demon Deacons (7-1)

There’s no doubt that the Demon Deacons are the best team in North Carolina after they demolished N.C. State in a rout on Saturday. Playing in just three quarters, Jamie Newman threw for three touchdowns and had two on the ground. Coach Clawson has this team rolling with a legit shot at winning the ACC. The Deacs travel to Blacksburg this week and are then headed to Clemson for what could be the deciding game in the Atlantic division.
