Villanova Stuns UNC on Buzzer Beater in National Championship

In its quest for its sixth NCAA Tournament Championship, the North Carolina Tar Heels would fall just short on one of the most shocking, incredible and agonizing plays in the history of basketball.

Trailing 74-71 to the Villanova Wildcats in the 2016 title game, the Tar Heels made what appeared to be a shot that would send the teams into overtime. Point guard Marcus Paige flew threw the air, acrobatically throwing up a shot that didn’t seem to have a chance but somehow found twine.

Of course, the exuberant feelings of Tar Heels fans would only last so long, as just moments later, Villanova’s Kris Jenkins broke North Carolina’s hearts forever.

Of course, the feelings of despair would only last one year, as the Tar Heels would rebound to win the 2017 National Championship, haunting Duke, N.C. State and Gonzaga fans forever.
