The Hurricanes have exploded out of the gate for a 5-1-0 start to the season. This is the best start in franchise history and the Canes could have set an even higher record if they had managed to beat Columbus on Saturday.
Even more shocking, it is thanks to a capable power play and all-around offensive production that they are finding success. Dougie Hamilton, Andrei Svechnikov, Teuvo Teravainen and Erik Haula have catalyzed the team into a threatening force that is set to be a real contender.
Some of the Hurricanes squad is seemingly struggling as Sebastian Aho, Nino Niederreiter and Jordan Staal all haven’t been finding very much success early. If they can get going, Carolina will be poised for another strong week.
In goal, Petr Mrazek has seemed to have trouble tracking the pucks and keeps getting beat on clean looks. Has been good in desperation, but as of now, Reimer seems the more capable netminder.
The first goal of the season was scored by Lucas Wallmark.
On the injury front, Jordan Martinook will be out for the next 6-8 weeks after having core muscle surgery, but Trevor van Riemsdyk was activated from injured reserve and is another body to have on the upcoming California road trip.
