Old North Banter: WWE Clash of Champions Comes to Charlotte
Becky Lynch vs. Sasha Banks — Raw Women’s Championship
After taking a break from the company following Wrestlemania 35, Sasha Banks returned the night after SummerSlam with a new hairdo and a new heel persona. The Boss immediately staked her claim as the next in line for Becky Lynch’s Raw Women’s Championship.
The Legit Boss appears reinvigorated, and her return presumably came with promises behind the scenes that will likely be enacted upon in this pay-per-view. However, the WWE Universe still hold the Man in high regard and will likely react negatively to a Banks title win. The logical choice would be to pick Banks, but the emotional choice would be picking Lynch to retain.
WINNER: Becky Lynch
Bayley vs. Charlotte Flair — Smackdown Women’s Championship
With Banks returning as a heel, many wondered how her return would affect Bayley, her Boss ‘n’ Hug Connection partner. Fans got the answer when Bayley turned heel against Lynch with vicious chair strikes on Raw last week. With Charlotte Flair still aligned against the fans as well, the Smackdown Women’s Title became a heel-versus-heel matchup. However, with Charlotte fighting in, well, Charlotte, the Queen City crowd will likely cheer in favor of the Queen.
That being said, Bayley’s championship tenure hasn’t exactly felt legitimate. Since winning the Money in the Bank contract and immediately cashing it in after Charlotte’s win for the belt over Lynch, Bayley’s title defenses have come against Lacey Evans, Alexa Bliss (with Nikki Cross), and Ember Moon. In none of those matches did it feel like Bayley would lose that championship. A win over Charlotte against a hometown crowd would make Bayley’s title reign feel like it’s been earned.
WINNER: Bayley
