Duke Routs Middle Tennessee State

Coming into the season, many fans of the Duke Blue Devils football team were wondering how much of Daniel Jones’ absence would be felt in 2019. If Saturday night is any indication, not much has changed.

The Blue Devils routed the Blue Raiders 41-18 Saturday to bring their record to 2-1. Blue Devils quarterback Quentin Harris had a monster game, throwing for 234 yards, rushing for 107 yards and scored four touchdowns through the air.

The Blue Devils scored 34-straight points after falling behind 3-0 in the first quarter, Middle Tennessee State didn’t score again until four and a half minutes in the third quarter, and by then the game was over.

Harris Making A Name Early

So far this season, Harris has been the first, second and third option on offense. Through three games, Harris leads the team in both rushing yards and passing yards.

Harris struggled against the Alabama Crimson Tide in the first game of the season, but to be honest, Duke had no business playing that team as they were signing up to be slaughtered by Nick Saban and company. Harris threw two interceptions in that game but hasn’t thrown one since that game.

Harris is also averaging four touchdowns per game and seems to be in control of the offense. the question is how will he keep it up against conference opponents.

Here Comes the Tough Part.

Duke seems to be in the position they want to be in, 2-1 going into the conference schedule but will have most of their toughest games on the road.

Duke will have to play Virginia Tech, No. 25 Virginia, Wake Forest and North Carolina on the road this season. Their only saving grace is that they will play an important game at home, the only problem is that it will be against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

If Harris can continue playing the way he has against the last two teams, Duke could see itself representing the coastal division in the ACC Championship in December.
