Previewing the Carolina Panthers 53-Man Roster

Following the conclusion of the 2019 preseason, the Carolina Panthers 53-man roster is complete. One undrafted free-agent successfully made the roster, and the team decided to cut ties with a respected veteran wide receiver after only one season. The Panthers will carry three quarterbacks and will field a new kicker for the first time since 2012. Carolina has made several key additions this offseason in hopes that this team will be able to rebound from a disappointing 2018 season. Here’s a breakdown of who made the 53-man roster.

Quarterbacks (3): Cam Newton, Kyle Allen, Will Grier

According to head coach Ron Rivera, the Panthers’ plan all along was to keep three signal-callers on the roster. Cam Newton remains the unquestioned starter, with Kyle Allen backing him up, and rookie Will Grier the third quarterback on the roster.

Newton, coming off of offseason shoulder surgery, returns for his ninth season with Carolina, while Allen beat out Taylor Heinicke for the backup job. Grier, the team’s third-round pick in this year’s draft, has potential but struggled throughout the preseason and training camp and will begin the year behind Newton and Allen on the depth chart.
