Revealing Our Next Moment on Our Countdown

Welcome back to our countdown of the Panthers Top-25 Moments, our countdown of the Panthers’ best franchise moments to celebrate the team’s 25th season in the NFL

If you missed our entry from yesterday, where Daniel Lacy breaks down DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart went off for over 300 combined rushing yards on Monday Night Football, check it out here.

Let’s reveal our next moment on the list at No. 15: the opening of Bank of America Stadium

Panthers Needed a Home After 1995

The team needed a home following the team’s first season in the league, during which the Panthers played their home games at Clemson University, making it the first time one of the big four sports leagues ever had a team in South Carolina.

Fortunately, the stadium was completed before the start of the 1996 season. It was a privately funded stadium from former Baltimore Colts receivers and former Panthers owner Jerry Richardson. Also worth noting, it was originally called Ericsson Stadium, not Bank of America Stadium.

That season proved to be magical as the team finished 12-4 and first place in the division, which included a seven-game winning streak to end the year. The Panthers also hosted there first playoff game in team history, which was a win against the reigning champion Dallas Cowboys. Unfortunately, the Panthers couldn’t win against the eventual Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers.

Since then, the stadium has been host to some great teams including the 2003 and 2015 teams. Following the team’s 2003 season, Bank of America purchased the naming rights for the stadium and the rest is history. While there is talk about acquiring a new stadium for the Panthers, the BOA Stadium will always hold a fond memory for most Panthers fans.

Why It Ranks Here

Most fans will always remember the moments that happen inside the stadium instead of the moments outside of it, most of which we will break down later on this list.

Another reason this moment ranked here was that most fans alway have known the stadium to be Bank of America Stadium and to be frank, the team has had much more impactful and memorable moments both on off the field.

That’s it for this entry on the list, stay tuned for our next entry on the countdown.
