Observations from the Panthers’ first preseason game of the 2019 season

Football is back, baby. It’s only the preseason, but as far as I’m concerned, football is football, and we got to see the Carolina Panthers play against another team in live action for the first time since the 2018 season finale against the New Orleans Saints on Dec. 30.

To make things even better, the Panthers came away with a 23-13 victory. While it’s good to see a win, the result of this game isn’t nearly as important as some of the position battles going on, as this is the time for coaches to evaluate starting lineups, depth competition or simply the guys who are trying to make the roster. With that in mind, here are three takeaways from Carolina’s first preseason game.
