David Tepper Has a Plan for The Next Big Panthers Upgrade

One thing about the Jerry Richardson era of the Carolina Panthers was a team that was averse to spending money to make the enrichment of fans happy, but current owner David Tepper is trying to change that narrative.

In a recent interview, the Panthers owner said he is sticking to his “Two States, One Motto” and wants to have North Carolinians help pay for a brand new stadium the team that would feature a retractable roof over the stadium.

This statement comes just a few weeks the Panthers opened a new practice facility and headquarters in Rock Hill, S.C., some of which was paid for with taxpayer dollars

Panthers Fans Should Be Excited About the Stadium

Panthers fans should be thrilled about the idea of a new stadium coming to the team, especially since stadium architecture has come a long way since the team’s first year in the league. Imagine having a stadium like the Falcons have, how cool would that retractable look in Downtown Charlotte?

The Panthers have played in Bank of America Stadium since 1996 and since then, the team has spent money on renovations to make the experience better for fans, but an indoor stadium with climate control would be the best way to change that.

The Panthers’ stadium is also one of the older stadiums in the NFL, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but it doesn’t have the historical staying power that Soldier Field, Lambeau Field or the Louisiana Superdome have.

Toughest Thing to Get This Going Will Be Getting Taxpayers Involved

The most difficult issue Tepper will have to get this stadium built will be getting the involvement of tax-payer money.

I think that this stadium will be a good idea as long as the Panthers act in good faith about how much tax-payer money they will need.

Beyond the Panthers getting a new stadium built, the pitch for a new stadium could also help the city get an MLS team to the Carolinas, something that the city of Charlotte has been trying to acquire for a few years now.

I think eventually citizens of the city will cave and contribute to having a new stadium built, but only if they make sure they don’t put a Chick-Fil-A in there. Not because it’s not delicious (It’s such a clutch meal), but because it’d be pointless having a restaurant that’s not open on Sundays (looking at you Mercedes-Benz Stadium).
