Daily Links and Banter 7/22: Justin Williams, Panthers LBs
Good morning. It’s July 22nd and here’s an update on minor league baseball in North Carolina.
The state of North Carolina may be in a dead period, but there are several key minor league races to keep fans entertained as we wait for football, basketball and hockey to return.
The state of North Carolina has a total of 26 minor league baseball teams, so chances are there is one in your area for you to hop onto the bandwagon.
In AAA, the Durham Bulls lost their division lead over the weekend after a series loss to the Indianapolis Indians, and sit at 59-42, a half-game behind the Gwinnett Stripers, and 5.5 games ahead of the Charlotte Knights. The Bulls are second in ERA and third in batting average this season.
In Single-A, the Down East Wood Ducks won the first half and qualified for the playoffs with a 50-20. The team has two of the Rangers top five prospects on it and has a 2.68 ERA on the season.
With football games not starting for at least another month, it’s worth paying attention and enjoying some summer baseball, especially with minor league playoff races getting started soon.

Carolina Hurricanes: Time to Re-sign Justin Williams
Cardiac Cane continues to pump out good content about the Hurricanes and here is an excellent article on why the team needs to re-sign Justin Williams now. The Hurricanes re-signed Brock McGinn over the weekend on a two-year, $4.2 million deal and now it’s time to get the Captain back in the fold.
Panthers Position Preview: Linebackers
The Panthers will have to figure out a way to replace Thomas Davis’ production in 2019-20. Davis had 79 tackles last season. Having a linebacker like Luke Kuechly certainly helps to offset any loss though.
