Mack Brown continues to work magic with the transfer of Kyler McMichael

The North Carolina Tar Heels landed a major fish on Saturday, as Clemson defensive back Kyler McMichael announced his intent to transfer to Chapel-Hill.

McMichael was the No. 8 ranked cornerback and 56th overall ranked player in the 2018 class. He originally enrolled at Clemson over offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, LSU, Georgia and 13 others. He made two tackles for the Tigers in 2018 and got limited playing time on Clemson’s elite roster.

He was a teammate of UNC sophomore Trey Morrison at Norcross (Ga.) Greater Atlanta Christian School. The rising sophomore announced his decision on Twitter on Saturday.

To say this is a boon for the Tar Heels is an understatement. The team is overhauling a roster that finished with losing records in each of the last two seasons and is amassing talent in the process.

The Tar Heels finished with the 32nd ranked recruiting class in 2019 and currently has the 15th ranked recruiting class in 2020. The one thing that has been missing from Carolina recruiting classes has been high-end secondary talent. There is only one top-20 recruit in North Carolina at the corner position (Aydan White) and he is already committed to N.C. State.

UNC added three-star corners Storm Duck and Obi Egbuna in the 2019 class, as well as four star transfer Cam’Ron Kelly from Auburn.

McMichael changes the whole equation. While he won’t count towards the 2020 recruiting class, he’ll be an instant impact player that will change the look of the Tar Heel defense.

Brown continues to attract high-end talent to the Tar Heels roster and continues to make the future bright for the program. If he can produce a surprising season in year one at the helm, it could tip the recruiting scales even further in his direction for the 2020 and 2021 classes.
