Daily Links and Banter 7/21: NC Courage on ESPN2
Good Morning it’s July 21st and NWSL Soccer is on the big stage today
If you are looking for a local team to watch tonight, look no further than the North Carolina Courage, who will be featured on ESPN2 at 6 PM EST. The best team in North Carolina looks to continue its dominance against the Chicago Red Stars.
The Courage haven’t replicated the insane success they had last year, as the team rattled off 12 straight games without a loss en route to the league title. Still, the team sits at 6-2-4 (22 points), one point behind the league leading Portland Thorns FC.
They’ll face the Chicago Red Stars, currently sixth on the table and feature the league’s leading scorer in Sam Kerr (nine goals) and midfielder Nikki Stanton leads the league in yellow cards. The Courage counter with forward Kristen Hamilton who leads the team in goals (seven) and is second in the league.
On Saturday, North Carolina governor Roy Cooper hosted the Courage at his executive mansion to recognize the players who brought home the Women’s World Cup title. The Courage had four players on the team – Sam Mewis, Abby Dahlkempber, Crystal Dunn and Jessica McDonald.

Carolina Panthers Position Preview: Edge Rushers
The Panthers edge rushers were not good in 2018. The team finished 26th in sacks in 2018, mostly due to Mario Addison being the only reliable edge rushers. This year, the Panthers added defensive Bruce Irvin in free agency and drafted Brian Burns out of Florida State. Can the team improve on last year’s mediocrity?
Canes sign McGinn, avoiding arbitration
The Hurricanes brought back Brock McGinn, who scored 10 goals in 82 games last season. The signing is for two years, $4.2 million and avoids an arbitration situation with the 25-year old. The Canes will now have to do some fancy work to fit Justin Williams into the cap in 2019. It’s easily doable, it will just require movement of contracts.
