ECU Football: Pirates pick up highest ranked prospect of 2020 class
The Pirates picked up a tall corner from Washington, D.C.
Sean Tucker, a defensive back rated a three-star prospect, has committed to East Carolina for the class of 2020. Tucker has good size, checking in at 6’0″, 170 lbs and featured a fairly impressive offer list. The Pirates beat out offers from Indiana, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Virginia, Liberty, Toledo and Temple. He becomes the highest ranked prospect in the Pirates class.

Tucker is the 97th overall cornerback prospect and 13th ranked prospect in Washington D.C. He displays good ball skills and excelled in man-to-man coverage.
Tucker comes at a massive position of need for the Pirates, as the pass defense was the worst unit on the team last season. The Pirates finished 121st in the nation in passing yards allowed, giving up a 269.5 yards per game. The Pirates finished 118th in interceptions and 101st overall in yards allowed.
The inability to stop the pass opened the door for several blowouts, as the Pirates gave us 37.3 points-per-game. The Pirates finished better on defense than only one AAC opponent – the historically bad UConn Huskies.
Tucker becomes the third corner in the Pirates class of 2020. East Carolina picked up three-star Nasir Clerk in March over Cincinnati and Syracuse and less than a week ago added unranked CJ Crump from Greensboro.
This is the second straight year that the Pirates have prioritized the defensive secondary, as ECU signed three cornerback recruits in the 2019 class as well, all of them ranked as three-star prospects.
Expected 2019 starters Colby Gore and Michael Witherspoon are seniors this season, which will open the door for young players to get playing time in the 2020 season. Competition for those spots will be fierce, as the Pirates enter the 2019 season with 11 underclassmen at the defensive back position.
Tucker has the chance to be as good as anyone on the Pirates roster and it’s a great pick-up by coach Mike Houston.
