The next wave of NHL stars find out their future this weekend

The NHL Draft kicks off this Friday with the first round and finishes on Saturday with rounds 2-7. Here’s everything you need to know to catch all of the action.

When is the draft?

The NHL Draft kicks off on Friday 8 PM EST. Rounds 2-7 are on Saturday starting at 1 PM EST. The draft is split between two rounds, but you shouldn’t tune out the second day. Recently, the Hurricanes have drafted Sebastian Aho (Round two), Alex Nedeljkovic (Round two), Warren Foegele (Round three), Brett Pesce (Round three) and Jaccob Slavin (Round four) on day two of the draft.

Where is the draft?

The 2019 NHL Draft is being held in Vancouver, British Columbia, at Rogers Centre, home of the Vancouver Canucks. It’ll be the first time since 2006 that the event is held in Vancouver and the first time it’s been held in Canada since the 2009 NHL Draft in Montreal.

The 2006 NHL Draft saw future Hurricane Jordan Staal taken No. 2 overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

When do the Hurricanes pick?

The Hurricanes currently sit at pick No. 28 in the first round. It’s a massive reversal from a year ago, when the Canes were sitting at No. 2 overall and fighting to rebuild its culture. The Hurricanes have a league-high 10 picks in the 2019 Draft, as Carolina acquired two second-round picks from trades with Buffalo (Jeff Skinner) and New York (Adam Fox), as well as an extra sixth-round pick from Calgary in the Eddie Lack deal. The first overall pick is once again held by the New Jersey Devils, who picked Nico Hischier first overall in the 2017 NHL Draft.

How can I watch the NHL Draft?

The draft will be televised by NBC Sports Network and NHL Network and available online using the NBC Sports App. The
