Criswell Commits to Tar Heels for 2020

The University of North Carolina Tar Heels football team is going through a change right now, Larry Fedora is gone and Mack Brown has been making the most of his early second tenure as Tar Heels head coach. After a few months back in Chapel Hill, Brown is paying dividends on the recruiting end of coaching.

Around 12:45 p.m., Morrilton High School quarterback Jacolby Criswell announced via his Twitter page he was committed to playing for the Tar Heels starting in 2020.

Prior to the commitment form Criswell, the 6-foot quarterback had been considering the Miami Hurricanes, Arkansas Razorbacks, Penn State Nittany Lions and Alabama Crimson Tide.

Criswell is ranked as the 10th best dual-threat quarterback in the country according to 247Sports and joins Malik Hornsby as the second dual-threat quarterback to commit to playing for the Tar Heels in 2020.

While Brown is making recruiting within the triad area of North Carolina an important part of his recruiting strategy, He is showing that he is gathering talent from the deep south as well.

Of the 14 commits Brown currently has for the 2020 season, six of them are based in states with a particularly large SEC presence, including three recruits from the state of Georgia.

Brown so far has spent his time recruiting for the offensive side of the ball for 2020. According to 247Sports, 11 of the 14 recruits that have committed to playing for the Tar Heels play on offense

As it stands right now, according to 247Sports, Brown’s recruiting class is shaping to be the 9th best in the country for 2020 and is currently sitting in fourth within the Atlantic Coast Conference.

If Brown wants to translate the commitments into hard commitments, he will need to show some level of improvement during the 2019 season, which kicks off August 31 against the South Carolina Gamecocks.
