Defense finally gets pressure on QB

The Carolina Panthers have been known over the year for their ability to put pressure on the opposing quarterback. However, this year they have struggled and entering this game they had only nine sacks on the year.

This week though the defense was able to get pressure on Alex Smith and finished with three sacks and six QB hits.

The three sacks came from Mario Addison, Shaq Thompson and Julius Peppers, who got his first sack on the year.

This defense is predicated on getting pressure on the quarterback and when they aren’t able to do that, they struggled being a top defense like they have been in the past. This game hopefully is a sign of things to come in this department.
