The Carolina Panthers came up short the second time on the road, this time a 23-17 loss to the Washington Redskins. These are the top takeaways from the Panthers in Week 6.

The Carolina Panthers are still looking for their first road win of the season after suffering a 23-17 loss to the Washington Redskins. The team once again got off to a slow start, falling behind 17-0 thanks to three turnovers on their first four drives.

The miscues started early with rookie DJ Moore fumbling a punt after the Panthers forced the Redskins to go three and out on their opening drive. It took only one play for the Redskins to capitalize with a 22-yard strike from Alex Smith to Vernon Davis.

Then two drives later a former Panther, Josh Norman, came away with an interception on Cam Newton. This time though the Redskins were not able to turn them into points although they were already up 14-0.

The Panthers’ defense stepped up with a three and out but two plays later, Josh Norman made his presence known once more. He was able to force a fumble on DJ Moore, which was his second of the day.

Once the Panthers were able to stop the turnovers, they began chipping away at the Redskins lead. They cut the lead down to 20-17 midway through the fourth quarter and had a chance to win after a Dustin Hopkins’ field goal extended the Redskins’ lead to 23-17.

However, Cam Newton couldn’t find the end zone with three plays inside the red zone and the Panthers turned the ball over on downs with 38 seconds to end their comeback attempt.
