Former Clemson quarterback Kelly Bryant is expected to visit the University of North Carolina this weekend, according to reports.

The UNC football team could get some good news in a season that has certainly not gone as planned. According to Inside Carolina, Clemson QB transfer Kelly Bryant is expected to visit Chapel Hill this weekend and be on hand when the Tar Heels face the Virginia Tech Hokies on Saturday.

Bryant was the starting quarterback for Clemson since the beginning of 2017, replacing DeShaun Watson, and started the first four games of 2018. However, Tigers’ head coach Dabo Swinney elected to go with freshman Trevor Lawrence, who had split snaps with Bryant to start the year against Syracuse.

Shortly after Bryant found out he would no longer be the starting quarterback, he notified the team that he would be transferring. Thanks to the new redshirt rule in college football, where a player can keep a year of eligibility if they play in four or less games, Bryant now has the opportunity to play one more year at the collegiate level.

Bryant has been very successful in the little over a year as starting quarterback, going 16-2 over that stretch with Clemson. He threw for 3,263 passing yards with 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions while adding another 795 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns.

Meanwhile, this is a move that certainly makes sense for the UNC football team. The play from the quarterback this position has been nothing short of disastrous with Nathan Elliott starting the year due to Chazz Surratt’s suspension. Elliott has completed only 58% of his passes, throwing for 773 yards with three touchdowns and four interceptions.

The Tar Heels did get Surratt back in their last game against Miami, however the performance wasn’t much better. He split snaps with Elliott and completed only 4 of 10 passes for 10 yards with three interceptions.

This certainly makes sense for the Tar Heels to be interested in a player of Kelly Bryant’s caliber and Bryant would likely enter the year as the clear-cut favorite as starting quarterback.
