The Carolina Panthers needed a last second field goal but were able to secure a 33-31 victory over the New York Giants. These are the key takeaways from their Week 5 game.

The Carolina Panthers after a slow start were able to jump out to a 17-3 lead midway through the second quarter. However, the New York Giants fought back and the two teams found themselves trading scores until Graham Gano connected with a 63-yard field goal in the final seconds to secure a 33-31 win.

It wasn’t the best performance for this Carolina Panthers team as Cam Newton threw two interceptions and the offense was only able to muster 350 total yards with Newton throwing for only 237 yards.

Meanwhile, the Panthers defense didn’t seem to have an answer for this Giants offense, specifically the passing attack, as Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr. combined to throw for 382 yards and three touchdowns.

Beckham Jr. also racked up 131 receiving yards with a key touchdown reception in the fourth quarter that cut the Panthers lead by three to 27-24. However, the biggest positive from this game was the defense’s ability to stop rookie Saquon Barkley on the ground as he only had 50 rushing yards on Sunday.

These are the top takeaways for the Carolina Panthers in their 33-31 victory over the New York Giants.
