The Wake Forest football team was hoping to pull off one of the biggest upsets this season but it wasn’t in the cards as the Clemson Tigers ran away in a 63-3 rout.

The Wake Forest football team were coming off a dominant performance over the Rice Owls and were hoping they could head to Clemson to pull off the upset. However, that was not what happened as the Clemson Tigers amassed 471 rushing yards and nearly 700 total yards in a 63-3 rout of the Demon Deacons.

The defense has clearly been a weakness for this team this year and that was on full display Saturday against the Tigers. They had two running backs, Travis Etienne and Lyn-J Dixon, with over 160 rushing yards and a third, Adam Choice, finish with over 120 rushing yards. Each of these backs had runs over 60 yards and they combined for six rushing touchdowns.

Meanwhile, the offense for the Wake Forest football team failed to get anything really going as quarterback Sam Hartman completed only seven of 20 pass attempts for 74 yards with one interception.

The team’s top two running backs, Cade Carney and Matt Colburn, combined for only 45 rushing yards. The leading rusher against Clemson was Kendall Hinton, who entered this year expecting to be the starting quarterback but a three-game suspension at the start of the year changed that.

While the Wake Forest football team came into this game as underdogs, the hope was that Demon Deacons would look a little more competitive against Clemson.

The focus this week for head coach Dave Clawson entering their bye, as it has been almost every week will be to find a way to shore up this defense before the season gets away from the Demon Deacons. They have lost three of their last four games and will need to find adjustments that work before they travel to face Florida State in two weeks.
