The NC State football team may have caught a break as Boston College running back AJ Dillon has been ruled out for today’s game against the Wolfpack.

This afternoon’s game for the NC State football was expected to be a matchup between two of the best offensive players in the ACC, Wolfpack quarterback Ryan Finley and Eagles’ running back AJ Dillon.

However, according to Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel Boston College running back AJ Dillon will not play in today’s game. There was some question entering this weekend about Dillon availability as he suffered an ankle injury last week against Temple.

This is a big blow to Boston College’s chances at an upset this afternoon over the 23rd ranked NC State football team. Dillon is not only the Eagles’ best player, but is one of the best running backs in the country. He currently ranks third in the country with 652 rushing yards, averaging over six yards a carry and has six rushing touchdowns on the season. He also has 25 receiving yards with one receiving touchdown.

The loss of Dillon will certainly hurt this Eagles’ offense but it doesn’t mean the Wolfpack defense should take this game lightly. Dillon’s replacement last week against Temple, Ben Glines, is averaging over five yards a carry and had 120 rushing yards to finish the game.

He is a big play threat for this offense and has a reception over 10 yards in four of the first five games, along with runs over 10 yards in three of five games in limited action. He also has two receiving touchdowns on the season.

The absence of AJ Dillon is certainly good news for the NC State football team but they can’t let their guard down as they try to remain undefeated this season.
