Fantasy Football: Carolina Panthers Week 5 Outlook
Quarterback
The start of the 2018 season has certainly been promising for Cam Newton as he learns to play in Norv Turners’ offense. He looks comfortable on the field and is playing with a confidence that has been missing since his MVP season in 2016.
The biggest concern for Newton has certainly been the inconsistency in the passing yard totals. In two of the first three games, Newton has thrown for less than 175 passing yards with 26 or fewer pass attempts in those games.
However, the big positive is that he is finding the end zone and has eight touchdowns (5 passing, 3 rushing) with only one interception. The three rushing touchdowns is especially promising as he had only six last year. The ability to scramble and pick up yards with his feet makes him an intriguing fantasy quarterback, especially in leagues where rushing touchdowns are six points and passing touchdowns are four points.
This is a game that Newton could score a majority of his points on the ground as the New York Giants rank ninth against the pass (228.8 yards allowed per game) but 29th against the run (126 yards allowed per game).
