Who is the starting quarterback?

There may be no bigger question for the Tar Heels then trying to determine who the team’s starting quarterback is. They entered the year expecting to have a position battle between Nathan Elliott and Chazz Surratt, two quarterbacks who started a few games for the Tar Heels last year.

However, that position battle never really got started as Surratt was suspended to start the year due to his involvement in selling school-issued shoes. The job went to Elliott however he struggled to start the year and is completing only 58.3 percent of his passes with 773 passing yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions.

This certainly opened the door for Surratt, who returned from his suspension against the Hurricanes. Fedora eventually made the switch from Elliott to Surratt against the Hurricanes but he struggled as well, completing 4 of 10 for only 10 yards with three interceptions. He did however have 78 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.

The performances of neither quarterback can instill much confidence from Fedora. However this week the focus should be picking a starter and building a game plan that can make him successful.
