The Wake Forest football team had two players recognized this week as ACC Players of the Week.

The Wake Forest football team had the bounce back game they needed against Rice as they ended a two-game losing streak with a 56-24 victory over the Owls.

This was arguably the team’s best performance of the season but there was two players in particular that stood out and that was wide receiver Greg Dortch and quarterback Sam Hartman. Both of these players were recognized this week as ACC Players of the Week.

It shouldn’t be a surprise as both players had great games. Dortch was the team’s leading receiver with 11 receptions for 163 receiving yards and four touchdowns. This is the second time at Wake Forest that he had four receiving touchdowns in a game, which is a school record.

He also had four touchdowns against Louisville last year, the same game that he suffered a season ending injury.

The sophomore has had a breakout season so far and this was actually the second week he has earned ACC Player of the Week honors, but is the first time as a wide receiver. In the second week of the season, Dortch was named Specialist of the Week after returning two punts for touchdowns.

In addition to Dortch, Sam Hartman was named Rookie of the Week after completing 15 of 17 passes for 241 yards and four touchdown passes. Hartman was put in a tough position to start the year as he was named starting quarterback as a true freshman. However, he has risen to the occasion and this game against Rice was his best this season.

The one area he has really shown improvement is protecting the football. He had five interceptions through his first three games however he has had back to back games without a pick.
