Panthers Sign Eric Reid

The Carolina Panthers’ defense doesn’t have many question marks but the safety position was one of the them. The team entered the year with Mike Adams and Da’Norris Searcy, however Searcy suffered his second concussion in just over a month and was placed on injured reserve prior to the Bengals game.

This meant the Panthers went into the Bengals game with only three healthy safeties (Adams, Colin Jones and Rashaan Gaulden) and a move seemed to be likely.

The Panthers did make that move and got the best safety on the market, Eric Reid. The former first round pick by the San Francisco 49ers is a veteran safety that showed early in his career the level he is able to play at. He was named to the Pro Bowl as a rookie and over five seasons has 319 total tackles and 10 interceptions.

While Reid is expected to be the eventual starter, it will be interesting to see how much the coaching staff eases him in to this defense. The bye week certainly helps with a little extra time to get him up to speed but once he is starting full-time this defense will be very tough to beat.
