These are the top takeaways for the Duke football team as they fall short with a 31-14 loss to Virginia Tech.

On Saturday night, it was the chance for Duke football to legitimize themselves as a contender in the ACC with a primetime matchup against the Virginia Tech Hokies. The Blue Devils were entering the game 4-0, were ranked in the Top 25 for the first time this year and had starting quarterback Daniel Jones returning from a broken collarbone.

However, the Blue Devils were no match for the Hokies as their defense shut down the offense as they cruised to a 31-14 victory. The Hokies opened the scoring with a field goal but Daniel Jones was able to drive this offense down the field and give them a 7-3 lead with a touchdown pass to Noah Gray.

The second quarter though was all Virginia Tech as they outscored the Blue Devils 14-0 and took the lead that they would not relinquish for the remainder of the contest. The offense for the Duke football team struggled to put together drives and it wasn’t until a minute into the fourth quarter that they were able to get on the scoreboard again with a Deon Jackson touchdown.

It was certainly a disappointing performance for the Blue Devils but these are the top takeaways from the game against Virginia Tech.
