Defense has strong second half

It is hard to imagine a defense having a good day when the opponent puts up 47 points however 21 of those points came when they weren’t even on the field. The second half performance by this Tar Heels’ defense showed promise, especially in a time when they could have packed it in.

The start of the second half, the Tar Heels forced a fumble, interception and three and out on consecutive drives. Defensive end Malik Carney was a key contributor in this stretch of the game. He ended the Hurricanes’ first drive with a strip sack that the Tar Heels recovered. Then had another forced fumble on the three and out, although that fumble was not recovered by UNC.

The return of Carney, along with the eventual return of Aaron Crawford, should be a big boost for this defense. They should be able to keep this UNC football team in games when they have a chance to be on the field.
