Communication

This is something that head coach Dave Clawson is well aware of and is something he has tried to fix the past few weeks. However, the communication on the field is not where it needs to be and this defense is being exploited because of it.

After the Notre Dame game, Clawson was well aware of it and said:

"“It’s the alignments and the communications and the checks,” Clawson said. “I mean, it’s just — even in a week that you think you simplify things and you put some things in to stop certain things and they still get those things that you put the defense in.”"

This is something that seems simple to fix and if they are able to correct this issue, the other areas of concern, like the explosive plays and the lack of turnovers, should fall in line. The coaching staff needs to identify that player that can be the voice on the field and get everyone in position before the snap.

Next. Demon Deacons need to stick with Sam Hartman. dark

While it certainly hasn’t been a great start for this defense, they have plenty of playmakers and the talent to be competitive the rest of the way. If the coaching staff can address these few key issues, the Demon Deacons should be able to turn their performance around.
