Tar Heels gets first turnover at key moment in game

It took over 10 quarters but the UNC football team got their first turnover on the season. While it wasn’t the defense, who is still in search of the elusive turnover, it came on special teams in a key moment in the game.

The Tar Heels had just taken a 35-28 lead and on the ensuing kickoff was able to force a fumble that was recovered by kicker Freeman Jones. This set the Tar Heels up for a field goal that extended the lead to 10 and was just enough to secure the victory.

While it was good to see the team get their first turnover of the season, this is something that the coaching staff must focus on for this defense, starting with Thursday night’s game against Miami. The Tar Heels are entering this game as big under dogs and if they want to pull an upset of a Top 25 team they will need to force some turnovers.
