The UNC football team earned their first win of the season with a 38-35 victory over the Pittsburgh Panthers.

The UNC football team appeared to be heading towards a lost season after getting blown out by East Carolina University two weeks ago. However, after having last week’s game cancelled due to Hurricane Florence, the Tar Heels came out and played inspired football en route to a 38-35 victory over Pitt.

It was not an easy victory and the game went back and forth for a majority of the game. The largest lead either team had was 10, when the Tar Heels extended their lead 38-28 late in the third quarter.

This was a big game for sophomore quarterback Nathan Elliott who has struggled in the first two games this year. He finished the game with 313 passing yards and two touchdowns but more importantly had no turnovers.

This was also the first game the Tar Heels had their big three running backs (Antonio Williams, Jordon Brown, and Michael Carter) and it was a boost for this offense as they accounted for four of the team’s five touchdowns.

Meanwhile, the defense struggled in the first half, allowing 28 points. However, this group came out of halftime with a new attitude and was able to lock down the Panthers’ offense.

These are the key takeaways from the Tar Heels’ win over the Panthers.
