The Carolina Panthers have a few players that could have an impact this week in fantasy football.

The offense for the Carolina Panthers came alive against the Atlanta Falcons and it started at quarterback with Cam Newton. The Panthers’ quarterback threw for 335 passing yards, was the team’s leading rusher with 42 yards on the ground and three passing touchdowns with only one interception.

While the rushing yards are a nice boost, the number that fantasy football owners should be most excited about is 71. This was Newton’s completion percentage against the Falcons and is substantially higher than his career completion percentage around 60%.

The high completion percentage can be attributed to running back Christian McCaffrey, who had 14 receptions on 15 targets with 102 receiving yards. He also had 37 rushing yards however it is becoming clear that the Panthers’ running back value will be through the passing game. There is no question he is on pace to being one of the top running backs in PPR formats.

The one area that will be maddening for fantasy owners is at wide receiver and this was very apparent on the stat sheet against the Falcons. The team’s leading receiver was Devin Funchess with seven receptions for 77 yards however he failed to score a touchdown.

However, the Panthers did have three receivers score receiving touchdowns (Jarius Wright, Torrey Smith and DJ Moore). The concern is that they will be touchdown dependent with Wright being the only one to have more than two receptions in this group.

With Week 2 in the books, this the fantasy football outlook for the Carolina Panthers in Week 3.
