Devin Funchess

The Panthers’ number one wide receiver is coming off a disappointing first game to the 2018 season with only three receptions for 41 yards against the Dallas Cowboys.

The loss of Olsen could also mean an increase in targets for Funchess and he will need to respond accordingly.

Last season in the seven games, Funchess and Olsen were in the starting lineup together he averaged 3.1 receptions, 5.9 targets, 47.6 receiving yards with two touchdowns in those games.

Those numbers jump in the nine games without Olsen to 4.6 receptions, 7.8 targets, 56.3 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

This year though there is no question that Cam Newton has much better weapons at the wide receiver position. However, the tone needs to be set by the top guy and that is Devin Funchess. He should see an increased target share against the Atlanta Falcons and it will be interesting if it correlates to a better stat line.
