Special Teams kept it close

It took a little bit for the Wake Forest football team to get their offense going as their first drives ended with an interception, a punt and a fumble. However, the special teams helped keep this game close with big plays early and an excellent performance by punter Dom Maggio.

One of the plays of the game came in the second quarter when Boston College had a high snap that went over their punter’s head. He was able to recover it and was about to kick it when Demetrius Kemp made a beautiful diving block that went into the end zone and was recovered by Malik Grate.

Meanwhile, punter Dom Maggio played a big role in the position battle and keeping the Boston College deep in their end of the field to start their drives. He had seven punts and averaged 44 yards per punt with four downed inside the 20.

The performance of the special teams this year has been an added bonus for this Wake Forest football team and make timely plays when this team needs it. Last week, it was Greg Dortch with his two punt returns for touchdowns and this week the blocked punt by Kemp recovered for a touchdown. This is hopefully something that will continue throughout the rest of the season.
