Tar Heels have too many penalties

The refs that have worked the two UNC games to this point have certainly earned their paychecks as the UNC football team has been called for 20 penalties for 189 penalty yards in the first two games. This is much more than the 9 for 75 yards that their opponents have been called for.

The issue of penalties is not something new and as Taylor Vippolis of Inside Carolina tweeted out, the UNC football team has committed significantly more penalties over the past 12 games.

While one or two games could be considered a fluke, the fact that this is something that has been an issue dating back to last year, reflects more on the coaching staff. Hopefully, head coach Larry Fedora works to correct this leading up to next week’s game.
