The Duke football team remained undefeated with a 21-7 victory over Northwestern. These are the top takeaways from the Blue Devils second win of the 2018 season.

The Duke football team got their first signature win of the season with a 21-7 road win over Northwestern. The Wildcats jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead over the Blue Devils thanks to a Jeremy Larkin touchdown that capped off a long opening drive for Northwestern.

However, the second quarter was when this offense came alive with three touchdowns on four drives. It was the Daniel Jones show that quarter as he had three touchdown passes, including a 52-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Lloyd and a one handed grab by Davis Koppenhaver with just over two minutes to go in the quarter.

Meanwhile, the Blue Devils’ defense shut down the Wildcats’ offense for most of the game after that initial drive. In Northwestern’s final 13 drives, the Blue Devils’ held them to 35 yards or less on 10 of those drives. They also won the turnover battle with two interceptions, one by Michael Carter II and one by Marquis Waters.

While they were able to come away with a win, there is still plenty to work on as they head towards next week’s game against Baylor.

These are the top takeaways the Blue Devils should take from this game before next week.
