Sam Hartman

The true freshman was one of the key players to watch last week and after an up and down performance, all eyes should be on Sam Hartman for a second week.

Hartman finished the game against Tulane with 378 passing yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also was the team’s leading rusher with 64 rushing yards.

For a true freshman in his first ever college football game, this was a great performance. However, the focus should be building on that as he continues to run this offense and whether he improves enough to keep the job once Kendall Hinton returns from his suspension.

The focus this week for Hartman should be to protect the ball more but not lose that aggressiveness he showed against the Green Wave. The second interception in particular is an example where Hartman must learn it is better to take a sack rather than making an ill-advised throw.
