NC State Football: Jakobi Meyers game-time decision, Steph Louis will play
The wide receivers for NC State football is influx with Jakobi Meyers considered a game time decision but they will have Steph Louis return for Saturday’s game against Georgia State.
One of the strengths of the NC State football team is being tested in the early part of the 2018 season. The team’s leading receiver last week against James Madison University, Jakobi Meyers, is considered a game time decision based on what head coach Dave Doeren said after practice on Thursday, according to R. Cory Smith of Pack Pride.
Meyers finished last week’s game with 14 receptions for 161 yards however suffered an ankle injury against the Dukes. He was able to finish the game however the team appears to be being cautious with the wide receiver.
While the offense would benefit from having Meyers on the field, this is a perfect opportunity to give him some rest and let him get completely healthy heading into the following week’s high-profile game against 15th ranked West Virginia.
The other reason the team won’t have to rush Meyers back is that they are expected to have Steph Louis on the field. The senior missed the first game of the season against James Madison however when Doeren was asked about his Louis he said: “Oh yeah he will play.”
Louis was fourth on the Wolfpack last year with 37 receptions, 583 receiving yards and two touchdowns. However, he is a big play threat and finished leading the team in yards per catch with 15.9.
The trio of Meyers and Louis, along with Kelvin Harmon, make a strong case for being one of the best wide receiver groups in the ACC. These wide receivers, along with quarterback Ryan Finley, is a tough passing attack for any defense to try and slow down.
The fact this is the strength of the offense should give the team pause with deciding if they want to bring Meyers back for this weekend’s game against Georgia State. This is a game they should win and it would likely benefit Jakobi Meyers more to get the rest and be completely healthy for the showdown with West Virginia.
