The Duke football team got off to a good start for the 2018 season with a 34-14 victory over the Army Black Knights. These are the key takeaways from Friday night’s game.

The Duke football team was able to avenge one loss during their six game losing streak from last year with a 34-14 win over Army. The last loss the Blue Devils had came at the hands of the Black Knight and a win was a good way to put the 2017 season behind them.

It was all Blue Devils to start this game as they built a 17-0 lead by halftime. In the first quarter, Collin Wareham connected on a 25-yard field goal but it was in the second quarter that the offense started to click. Explosive running back Brittain Brown scored on a 12-yard run then quarterback Daniel Jones had a one-yard touchdown run of his own.

The Black Knights didn’t go away though and in the second half had two touchdowns of their own and cut the lead down to 27-14 entering the final quarter.

The play of the game though came halfway through the fourth quarter as Army lined up for a field goal that would have cut the lead down to two scores. Linebacker Ben Humphreys made a great play getting above the offensive line and blocking the field goal attempt.

The Blue Devils responded with a field goal of their own to essentially put the game out of reach for a final score of 34-14. These are the top takeaways from the Blue Devils win over Army.
