These are the top takeaways from Wake Forest’s 23-17 win over the Tulane Green Wave.

The Wake Forest football team secured their first win of the season with a 23-17 overtime victory on the road against Tulane. It wasn’t easy, and wasn’t always pretty, however the Demon Deacons did enough to earn the win.

This was the first game for true freshman Sam Hartman and it took some time for the offense to get going. They spent most of the first half in the shadow of their own goal post as they Tulane dominated the field position battle.

However, the second quarter they started to get in a rhythm with a long drive but unfortunately ended with a missed field goal. The offense’s next drive wasn’t much better as Hartman through his first collegiate interception.

The following drive after the interception was a perfect example of what this offense is capable of as they went 80 yards on 14 plays that ended with a Hartman touchdown pass to Alex Bachman.

The Demon Deacons took a 7-0 lead into halftime and the second half went back and forth with neither team being able to put the other away. The two teams went to overtime with the scored locked at 17.

The Green Wave were unable to overcome a penalty on their first play of overtime and failed to put any points on the board. That was all the Demon Deacons needed as they were able to drive down and score with a Cade Carney rushing touchdown.

These are the top takeaways from the Demon Deacon’s first game of the 2018 season.
